About

14USC89 is a website that is dedicated to the men and women who protect the front lines of our nation. 14 USC § 89 is an American law which provides the U.S. Coast Guard, the nation’s oldest maritime law enforcement agency, with the powers of arrest, search, and seizure. This site is not affiliated with the U.S. Coast Guard, but its title does pay homage to the original law officers of the high seas.
Our purpose here is to provide current news, editorials, and equipment reviews relevant to all law enforcement, security, and military officers operating on any body of water in this country, and throughout the world.
14USC89 was started in February 2010 and has grown to become the primary source for the Maritime Law Enforcement Officer (MLEO) to visit to keep updated. Currently the site is run by two members of the Maritime Community (pictured right). They identified a major flaw in the reporting of events and actions that take place within our nations maritime boundaries. Often time the MLEO is a forgotten job. We aim to fix that.

About the Logo
The logo of 14USC89 was carefully designed in an effort to capture the essence of Maritime Law Enforcement and the meaning behind it.
The member in the middle represents the men and women who have committed to protect their country. They are an individual, yet they have no face. This represents that while we are individuals, our identities our not as important as the mission we accept and the service we represent.
The shield that surrounds the member represents the protection that they provide to the public from any threat that attempts to endanger our nation. The shield’s border alludes to armor and highlights the mission to defend and secure our ports and harbors.
The trident and rifle symbolize maritime power and law enforcement and emphasize the organization’s mission to detect and intercept criminal or catastrophic events well before they threaten our shores. The trident has long served as a symbol of nautical power, this is no exception. Each prong of the trident represents the 3 facets of the MLE mission: Detect, Intercept, & Interdict.
