A city park in Edgewater was evacuated while a sheriff’s office bomb squad checked on a suspicious device on Thursday morning. Officials said park employees discovered the box and found some kind of device that appeared to be explosive inside.

The device was found at Menard Park on Riverside Drive inside a garbage can. Deputies said several homes in the area have been told to shelter in place. Coast Guard officials steered boat traffic away while police blocked off Riverside Drive. The bomb squad will determine if the device is explosive.
