AWOL Soldier in California Turned Over to CGPD, Released, Arrested Again

Strange case. The soldier’s AWOL status was likely in NCIC if CHP was able to find it during a traffic stop, which makes it odd that CGPD or other USCG representatives were unable to verify.

An AWOL soldier is in jail after going on a burglary binge, reportedly breaking into eight Valley businesses and churches in a three-night span, including seven in one night. Jeffrey Ainsworth, 18, of Fort Polk, La., and Sebastopol, is being held on $10,000 bail for eight counts of burglary after he told detectives that he broke into the businesses to get money so he could go back to Fort Polk. But he also reportedly told detectives that he spent his ill-gotten gains on topless bars and meth. According to Sgt. Greg Stashyn, with the Sheriff’s Valley substation, detectives got a break when Ainsworth reportedly ripped open donation envelopes at the Church of the Nazarene and left fingerprints on the envelopes. Detectives also found partial prints at two other burglaries.

Ainsworth was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 10, after crashing his car on Grange Road outside of Santa Rosa. At that time, CHP officers took Ainsworth to the Coast Guard Station at Two Rock, but officials at Two Rock released Ainsworth because his AWOL status wasn’t in their computer system yet. After getting an identification on Ainsworth from his fingerprints, Sonoma County Sheriff’s detectives tracked him at a Motel 6 on Santa Rosa Avenue and arrested him. The AWOL soldier is still in custody.

I’m not surprised, really. The Cyberlynx interface that USCG uses to access NCIC, etc is junk. It provides very limited info and is not very user friendly.

Article is inaccurate. CHP did not arrest him, they gave him a ride. They found no w/w on him either. His unit never entered his status(simple phone call) therefore nothing could be done. Warrants issued days later.
