USCG Assists Local Agencies in Enforcing Legal Drinking Age Over Holiday Weekend
Authorities say they arrested 21 people Saturday and Sunday, 15 of them for underaged drinking, as part of a holiday weekend enforcement sweep. The zero tolerance multi-agency operation focused on underage drinking, disorderly intoxication, disorderly conduct, drug possession, drunk boating, assault and battery, lewd behavior, open container violations and included boat inspections, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies targeted Peanut Island, the Intracoastal Waterway, Phil Foster Park, Ocean Reef Park and Light Harbor Park.
Of the 21 arrested, 15 were for underaged drinking, three for having open containers, one on drug charges, and one on an unidentified felony charge, a sheriff’s office log said. It also said seven people required medical attention. In all, sheriff’s deputies made contact with 175 individuals, the log entry said.
Also participating were police departments from West Palm Beach, Riviera Beach, Palm Beach Shores, and Palm Beach. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Florida Department of Alcohol Beverage and Tobacco, U.S. Coast Guard and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue were also involved.
