Three Venezuelans and a Colombian are being questioned by police in Antigua and Barbuda following what has been described as the largest ever drug seizure in the twin-island nation. The 1,984.2 lbs of cocaine, with an estimated street value of US $46.8 million in Antigua and Barbuda, was seized in the south of the country yesterday in a joint operation between the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy (ONDCP) and the Antigua and Barbuda Defense Force Coast Guard. “This cocaine seizure has been regarded as the largest in the history of Antigua and Barbuda and possibly one of the largest within the Eastern Caribbean,” a press release from the ONDCP stated.

The drugs were found on a vessel arriving from Venezuela. According to the ONDCP, the boat was intercepted when officials became suspicious of it. They took the drugs and four South Americans, aged 40 to 43, into custody. No charges have yet been laid. It’s unclear what the intended final destination of the drug had been. But the ONDCP said that if the shipment had arrived in the United Kingdom it would be sold at a street value of US $90,000,000.
