Recent Drug Smuggling Tricks
We all know the hundreds of stories about ways drugs are smuggled into this country. A bunch of us have had the thrill of victory finding drugs in fuel tanks, ballast tanks, or false compartments. Some of us have even been luck enough to just find the drugs lying out in plain sight. Here are some recent attempts to smuggle drugs into the country that I find pretty amusing:
1. Frozen Sharks – More than 20 sharks were cut open to reveal over a ton of cocaine stuffed inside the carcasses, according to the Mexican media and navy. Officials found the drugs after checking a freight ship in the Gulf Coast port of Progreso in Yucatan state. X-ray machines and sniffer dogs helped uncover the drugs, according to Reuters.
2. Cooked Chickens- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Dulles International Airport discovered more than 60 grams of cocaine … inside a fully cooked chicken. Unfortunately, this chicken’s unique blend of 11 herbs and spices included a white powdery substance.
3. Jesus Statue- U.S. customs officials have seized a statue of Jesus Christ made from plaster mixed with cocaine — the latest sophisticated attempt to smuggle drugs from Mexico.
4. Melons- Florida Department of Transportation officials in Marion County arrested and charged a semitrailer driver at a weigh station on I-75 after finding more than 800 pounds of marijuana hidden in a load of cantaloupes he was hauling. The man, 31-year-old Richard Garfield Coulton of Orlando, was reportedly heading to Miami from Arizona.
