Statesman Journal -
A California man tried to escape from pursing law enforcement officers by land and water, but was finally nabbed.

About 9:40 p.m. Friday, Oregon State Senior Trooper Dave Chambers saw a blue Toyota Celica westbound on Highway 140W that had been reported stolen.

When Chambers turned to stop the car, the driver accelerated and eventually reached speeds of 130 mph. Spike strips were deployed by a Klamath County sheriff’s deputy and popped the right front tire. The Toyota driver stopped at Lake of the Woods Westside cabin road and fled on foot, finally diving in the lake and making a swim for it. He was arrested by state troopers with the help of a Klamath County marine patrol boat.

The driver was identified as Jack L. Hasbrouck, 26, from Tulelake, Calif. In addition to two felony warrants for his arrest, he was jailed in Klamath County Jail on the following local charges: unlawful use of a motor vehicle; felony attempt to elude in a vehicle; misdemeanor attempt to elude on foot; reckless driving; recklessly endangering another person; misdemeanor driving while suspended.
