Times of Malta -
At 1500 today the Steve Irwin, flaghship of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, allegedly attacked the Italian flagged tug Cesare Rustico and the Maltese flagged support boat Rosaria Tuna as the vessels towed tuna cages off the Libyan coast.
The Steve Irwin approached the convoy with the intention of freeing the fish in the cages and allegedly assaulted the crews of both vessels with acid, ammonia, and rubber bullets to get at and tear the cage and ruin the catch.
Libya has reportedly dispatched warships to pursue the Steve Irwin.

Sea Shepherd confirmed the incident, but deny any fishermen were wounded. They do however claim one of the fishing vessels rammed the port stern of the Steve Irwin, causing minor damage.
