MI Marine Unit Deputies Injured in Assault

The eye gouge. Haven’t been hit with that one yet.

This is another example from our state and local partners how a routine call can quickly deteriorate. Four officers were needed to get the suspect under control, and even then he was able to assault and injure two of them.

Good move arresting the cheering section.

The Morning Sun -
Two Isabella County Sheriff’s deputies were injured during an altercation with a man at Meridan Park, Michigan Sunday, resulting in the arrests of two men.
Conservation Officer Jeremy Payne of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment called for backup while dealing with a disorderly man at about 5:15 p.m., Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski said. Deputies Brent Woodward and C.J. Steinert, who were on marine patrol for the holiday weekend, went to the park to assist Payne with the man, the sheriff said. During the scuffle, the disorderly man punched Woodward in the face and gouged Steinert’s eyes, Mioduszewski said.
The man, a 29-year-old from Lake, was arrested for being disorderly and for assaulting police officers, the sheriff said. During and after the scuffle, another man, a 31-year-old Weidman resident, did not follow instructions to stay back and taunted the officers, Mioduszewski said. He was arrested for threating police officers with physical harm and for being disorderly, the sheriff said.
Woodward and Steinert were taken to Central Michigan Community Hospital for treatment.
