With such severe damage to the boat, the operator is lucky no one was killed. Nice job by responding officers in recognizing signs of impairment and taking the appropriate action.

ABC 7 -
A southwest Chicago man is charged with boating under the influence after he crashed his boat into a break wall. The accident took place about 10:30 Tuesday night on Lake Michigan at Calumet Harbor. Six adults were found on the break wall near 95th Street when the Coast Guard arrived. The 38-foot boat did not sink but it did sustain $150,000 in damage.

Lawrence Fenzau, 41, of Orland Park was charged. Police say he refused a breathalyzer test. No one was hurt.
The Coast Guard cited Lawrence Fenzau, the boat’s operator, with boating under the influence. He could face a fine if found guilty. The Coast Guard declined to give Fenzau’s age or address.
