I figured since we now are exclusive to Sig Sauer as the provider of our PDW, why not go ahead and ditch the ancient and mishap heavy M-16 for the new SIG716 rifle. Is there a chance that it would happen? No, but it would be nice. Maybe they can just give us all the MK-18.

From Sig:

SIG Sauer’s SIG716 16-inch Patrol AR-type rifle is one of four in the new line.

SIG Sauer’s four AR-10 type SIG716 tactical rifle line will arrive in three barrel lengths and arrives with a fully automatic mode for law officers.

Chambered in 7.62 X 51 mm (.308 Winchester), the SIG716 tactical rifle line are gas-piston operated with a three-position gas valve (four-position optional). This design keeps the receiver free of firing residue for optimum reliability under adverse conditions and extended firing.

The SIG716 select-fire modes include single-shot, three-burst, and fully automatic (for law enforcement only). The fire control/safety selector is an ambidextrous design to improve accessibility and safety.

Four models include the SIG716 12.5-inch-barreled Tactical Patrol, the SIG716 16-inch Patrol, the SIG716 16-inch Precision Marksman and the SIG716 20-inch Precision Sniper. All models arrive with a free-floating, aluminum-alloy, quad-rail forend with four M1913 Picatinny rails for lighting and laser-mounted options.

Barrels are chrome-lined for extreme durability and corrosion resistance. The Precision Marksman and Precision Sniper models feature a muzzle that is threaded with a standard (0.625x24TPI) pattern to accommodate a wide variety of flash suppressors, muzzle brakes and sound-suppressor devices.

The lower and upper receivers are machined from aircraft-grade aluminum. Back-up iron sights are standard.

I would like to try it out. I think the CG should go to the Glock for a PDW. Lightweight, durable, and the possibilities are endless with Glock. Glock must be doing something right when a majority of LEO are carrying them. Just an idea!
