New Boarding Officer Counter Drug Ops Course at MLEA
The Maritime Law Enforcement Academy has established a new Counter Drug (CD) Strand Course to provide enhanced counter drug law enforcement boarding skills in support of Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATFS), as announced by FC-51 Detachment One Washington, DC. This āCā School is a result of field performance analysis that supported a need to enhance the execution of members conducting the counter drug mission.
This five-day CD course is a performance-based training program which prepares Coast Guard Boarding Officers to ensure that vessels are in compliance with federal laws, treaties and regulations concerning drug interdiction. It is designed to provide a foundation in applicable concepts, stressing hands-on practical experience in CD operations during maritime boardings. Emphasis is placed on policy, procedures, officer safety and practical exercises.
The course, which will include 24 students per convening, is designed to benefit Coast Guard Afloat and Deployed Personnel (LEDETS/TACLETS) that conduct CD operations in JIATS. The course will focus on contraband detection activities and associated equipment, including hidden compartments, space accountability and case file preparation.
